Install and edit Compose from Shopify admin → Online Store → Themes. Keep a backup before changing or updating your theme.
Install Compose
- When Compose is available in the Shopify Theme Store, open its listing and choose Try theme. Trials let you customize and preview the theme before purchasing; publishing requires a purchase.
- If you have a Compose ZIP file for an authorized installation, choose Add theme → Upload zip file in your theme library and upload the ZIP directly.
- Find Compose in the theme library and choose Customize or Edit theme, depending on your Shopify admin interface.
- Configure your branding and content using Theme settings and sections and blocks.
- Use Preview to check your work. Publishing replaces your active storefront theme, so finish the before publishing checklist first.
Update safely
- Duplicate your current theme from its actions menu before updating.
- Read the Compose release notes and check whether an update is available in your theme library. Use Shopify's Add to theme library update action when offered.
- Preview the updated copy before publishing. Check menus, templates, product variants, cart, forms, app blocks, and mobile layouts.
- Review custom code and app integrations separately. Do not assume manual code edits will transfer to an updated copy.
- Publish the checked copy when ready. Keep the previous version in your library so you can return to it if needed.
